Kevin Holland reflects on his highly criticized performance in his last fight

Kevin Holland spoke to the media prior to his last-minute scheduled bout with Marvin Vettori at UFC Vegas 23.

Kevin Holland is one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster. In 2020 he fought five times to break the record for most fights in a calendar year. Now just four months into 2021, he is ready to step back in the cage for the second time. His performance in his first fight of the year against Derrek Brunson just three weeks ago has highly criticized, even by Dana White. Reeling from that performance, Holland has a different demeanor coming into this fight week.

“I’m just here to do the job,” Holland said. “Everyone wants a big mouth, until the big mouth fails then they don’t want a big mouth anymore. As far as I’m concerned I’ll go out there and do what a trailblazer does and get a dub and take my black a– home.”

Many think Holland looked lost in his fight with Brunson. He was talking quite a bit in the leadup and in the fight itself. When asked if he had any thoughts on this he explained his way of thinking about how the fight went.

“I guess you can say I’m a little delusional,” Holland explained. “At the end of the day, I knew I was losing on the scorecards but at the same time how the f–k do you grant a guy a win for laying and praying for twenty minutes? When the f–k do you stand the fight up? If you don’t do none of those then it is what it is. You go back and you watch the Darren Till versus Tyron Woodley fight. How many times did they break that fight, how fast, how quick, how this, how that? You have me here locking this man up. He ain’t doing sh-t. Stand the fight up, it is what it is.”

Holland is looking to get it all back on track when he stepped in for the injured Darren Till to face number six ranked Vettori. Holland is sitting in the number ten spot and a win this Saturday night could easily bump him up several spots.
