Nina Ansaroff talks coming back after giving birth, wanting a title shot next

Nina Ansaroff is looking to pick up where she left off after returning to the Octagon following childbirth.

Nina Ansaroff is returning to the UFC Octagon after two years away from the sport. Ansaroff took time away to give birth to her first child with UFC featherweight and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes. Prior to her upcoming bout against Mackenzie Dern, Ansaroff spoke about her speedy return and want she expects next in her career.

“I wanted to return earlier and Amanda put the breaks on that,” Ansaroff explained. “She really put the breaks on it when she took her fight so I kind of had to be there for her and get that fight out of the way or I would have been fighting around that time as well.”

Before her time away, Ansaroff was rising up the rankings. She was arguably one fight away from the title shot when she lost to Tatiana Suarez. Prior to that, she had strung together four fights in a row against some tough competition. Now taking on Dern, Ansaroff hopes that the title shot will still be there with a win at UFC Vegas 23.

“It depends on the fight, it depends where it’d going,” Ansaroff said. “After this fight, if I win I would expect a contender fight or a title shot. That would probably become a priority. Amanda is looking to defend her 135-pound belt, that comes first, that’s a priority. We roll with the punches, however, it comes we deal with it at the time.”

Being one half of an MMA power couple and parent to a young child shows Ansaroffs determination to her career and her family. If she puts on a good show on Saturday she could see herself matched up with champion Zhang Weili.

UFC Vegas 23 takes place on Saturday, April 10, 2021, live from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided, who is on-site, for all your live news and highlights.
