Predicting the Fight of the Night

Which match-up is most likely to result in the Fight of the Night at UFC 262?

Just under a month ago, the UFC put on their first event with a sold-out crowd since the pandemic began, in Jacksonville, FL for UFC 261. The event was tremendously successful and this weekend the mixed martial arts leader keeps the train rolling with UFC 262 set to take place in front of a full arena of fans at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX.

Atop the loaded fight card will be a championship bout between Charles Oliveira (30-8) and Michael Chandler (22-5) for the vacant lightweight title. The man to get their hand raised will be the first to take the lightweight crown since Khabib Nurmagomedov retired. Setting the table in the co-main event is the return of No. 5 ranked lightweight Tony Ferguson (26-5) against a surging No. 9 ranked Beneil Dariush (20-4-1). Before that top ten women flyweights throw down when No. 2 Katlyn Chookagian battles No. 7 Viviane Araujo.

UFC 262 is another event filled with several fights that are serious contenders for the Fight of the Night. Oliveira and Chandler very well could be a war for as long as it lasts. Ferguson fights are always widely entertaining and Dariush is the perfect match-up at this time. Lando Vannata (11-5-2) and Mike Grundy (12-2) is one to keep an eye on during the prelims. However, there’s one fight on the card that has not been getting enough buzz and it just so happens to be the fight that will end up being the most entertaining one of the night.

UFC 262 main card will open with the Fight of the Night

Your UFC 262 winner for the Fight of the Night bonus will be brought to you by Shane Burgos (13-2) and Edson Barboza (21-9). These two are some of the most exciting fighters to watch on the UFC roster, and when their styles clash together it should be pure chaos.

Barboza is incredibly explosive and might just possess the scariest kicks in mixed martial arts. He’ll be looking to land one of those lethal kicks from the opening bell and to counter that Burgos will look to impose his pressure and move Barboza backward to nullify the kicks. Burgos will likely have no problem marching forward but Barboza surely will not be going into defensive mode on his back foot. Expect some wild striking exchanges with malicious intent from these always-game featherweights.

Both have had their fair share of wars. Barboza did with Paul Felder and Ferguson. Burgos did with Josh Emmett and Calvin Kattar. They have a history of great fights, their styles are a perfect match, and at UFC 262 lightning will strike again when Barboza and Burgos meet inside the octagon to produce the Fight of the Night.

UFC 262 takes place on Saturday, May 15, 2021, live from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. Follow along with FanSided all your live news and highlights.
